Planning and design, to us, are inseparable. We build the logistics and the atmosphere together: the timeline, the vendor relationships, the overall mood, and the tablescapes. The creative behind the work
I’m Sophia—the designer, planner, and creative mind behind Sophia Katarina Events, and based in Huntington Beach. I grew up in the world of events. My father worked in tent production for large-scale weddings and events, and watching those celebrations come together sparked something in me. I wanted to be part of the whole production, not just one piece of it.
What began as a love for lush florals, layered textiles, and beautiful gowns deepened as I witnessed the real heart of every celebration: the emotion and connection between two people. That perspective continues to shape how I approach every wedding. Not just how the wedding day looks, but how it feels.
I believe a wedding should feel like a fully realized world. Never just a collection of details, but a cohesive atmosphere where every element is layered with meaning and each choice tells a story.
As a Southern California wedding designer with over eight years of experience across Orange County and the California coast, I bring structure to complex, design-driven events- balancing creativity with precision to ensure every detail is seamlessly executed. I draw endless inspiration from the world around me: the way a scene is built in a film, the textures an architect chooses, the recipes a florist writes for a single centerpiece.
When the vision is fully realized and the energy in the room shifts, I’m reminded that every decision, every layer, and every detail had a purpose.
A little bit about me…
Architecture, interior design, and travel. I notice the way colors, patterns, and textures are woven together and layered to transform a space — and that’s always where my ideas begin.
The layering of textures on a reception table. Linens, glassware, paper goods — it’s often subtle, but it completely changes how the space feels.
Stationery treated as part of the design story rather than an afterthought. It’s an unexpected detail that makes the entire design feel more personal, playful, and unique.
Creating spaces that encourage connection, where guests can settle in and move throughout the evening with ease. Thoughtful and elevated events never feel rushed or forced, they unfold naturally with an intentional sense of calm.
When my husband said his vows to me, the entire world around us fell away. It was just the two of us, beginning a new chapter.
